Want a #GreatLife? Speak graciously.
The words you speak become the house you live in.
Your tongue guides your life. Your tongue can bring healing or cause destruction. Be care+full about everything that you utter. Speak your hopes and never your fears.
How do you talk to others? More importantly, how do you talk to YOURSELF? Did you know that what YOU say about YOU is more important to how your life goes than even what God says about you? (Not that He doesn’t have a high opinion of His hopes for you – It’s that He is waiting for YOU to come into agreement with Him!) What others say about you is important, but YOUR words echo in your mind almost twenty-four hours a day.
James said in Chapter Three of his epistle:
“Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well. Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things.”
Your tongue sets your direction. You are literally speaking your destiny or destruction all the time!
What comes out of your mouth guides your relationships, too. Do you praise your spouse? Do you criticize your children? Do you repeat damaging mantras like “Women can’t be trusted!” or “All men are sorry!” or other things like that? Those words repeated shape your perception – which shapes your reality over time.
Finally, a word from Paul the Great Apostle:
“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” – Ephesians 4:29
Your words matter – for everything! Use that verse to test everything you can. Does what you’re about to say pass the “Wholesome? Edifying? Needful? Gracious?” Test? If it doesn’t pass the test, don’t say it! (Try not to…)
Like apples of gold in settings of silver, everything you say should be able to be received like a gift.
One of my favorite quotes says “The words you speak become the house you live in.” Build a great life with your tongue. The power is in your mouth!
To your prosperity!
